Briefly . . .

The Friends of St Leonard’s Forest is a group of volunteers, working with Gatwick Greenspace Partnership, to restore and better manage the heathland in the forest.

We meet only once a month, on a Sunday, but usually carry out plenty of work in that time.

We believe that the moderate exercise, outdoors, helps us physically and mentally. Our objectives include helping to -

  • remove some of the unwanted Silver Birch and other plants from heathland areas
  • remove some of the lower branches of conifers on the edges of the clearings
  • cutting down Rhododendron Ponticum plants and treating remaining stumps with biocide
  • encourage heather to root and spread
  • encourage wildlife by supporting and improving their habitat.
